The MLCC is committed to the integration of sustainable devlopment into its decisions, actions and operations.

The decisions and activities of the MLCC strive towards:

• Integrating economic, environmental, human health and social considerations;
• Ensuring the most efficient and effective use of human, natural and financial resources with due consideration of associated costs;
• Including processes for informing those affected by decisions and actions in a timely manner and ensuring meaningful opportunity for public consultation and due process, including, where applicable, collaborative decision making, consensus and alternative dispute resolution;
• Being based on a sound business case;
• Complying with the requirements of all applicable regulations, laws, and policies;
• Ensuring administrative policies and procedures are integrated with the principles of sustainable development
• Providing employees with information and education in sustainable development practices; and
• Recognizing innovative actions or initiatives with proven sustainable development benefits

Sustainable Development Initiatives at MLCC

• MLCC uses T5 energy efficient lighting
• MLCC's paper contains 30% post consumer recycled content
• Eliminated Plastic Bags from Liquor Marts
• MLCC recently hired a Sustainable Development Coordinator
• Recently eliminated polystyrene foam products (Styrofoam^®) and disposable utensils from Head Office Cafeteria.
• Improving Current Waste Management Practices
• Eliminated Christmas Cards (money saved donated to the Christmas Cheer Board)
• Implemented Energy Star^® multi-functional devices to reduce number of machines
• Holiday Lawn Ornaments use LED lights
• Policy in place for proper disposal of hazardous waste ie. batteries, light bulbs
